Impact & Achievements
In her late forties, married with four children, she also serves as National Zonal Chair for the Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and as a Rotary Director for Youth Service. While teaching at Kadjanya D.A. R/C Basic School, she observed that many girls in Kadjanya and surrounding communities had limited aspirations, often seeing their future only in farming or tailoring. Poverty, lack of role models, and social pressures also contributed to early pregnancies and school dropouts.
As a girl-child coordinator, she intensified mentorship efforts, but soon realized that a more structured and sustained intervention was needed. This led her to co-found the ANEG Foundation, named after her grandmother, an educator who inspired her commitment to service. The foundation focuses on empowering girls through mentorship, education, and life-skills development. Over the past 11 years, ANEG has supported more than 1,500 girls in the Shai Osudoku and Lower Manya Krobo Districts through initiatives such as the Go Girls Program, ANEG Girls Summit, Go Girls Educational Camp, menstrual hygiene education, climate advocacy, leadership training, and entrepreneurial skills development.
The foundation has also introduced targeted programs such as Baby Go Girls and the Go Boyz Initiative to extend support to younger children and boys. These interventions have led to improved academic performance, reduced dropout rates, and increased progression of beneficiaries into senior high school and tertiary education. About 30 of the girls are currently in tertiary institutions and are actively serving as peer mentors, supporting younger students within the programme.
Participants have also developed stronger leadership skills, self-confidence, and growing interest in STEM and environmental issues. Through her own resources, networks, and long-term commitment, Mrs. Ayitey has consistently supported the education and development of disadvantaged children for over a decade. Her work has quietly built a growing pipeline of empowered young people and reflects a sustained effort to transform lives and expand opportunities for girls in underserved communities.
